Making a First Dance Recital Special

A first dance recital is a huge deal for a little dancer. She's been practicing for it for months and will finally be able to show off those routines. If you want to make the day extra special for her, here are some suggestions.

Put an ad in your local paper wishing them luck. Many newspapers have special ad space for birthday, engagement, or special announcements. Let your little one know how excited and proud you are of their first dance performance by publicly telling them so.

Bring flowers to give to them after the performance. Flowers are a beautiful and appropriate way to congratulate your daughter. Flower arrangements can come in a variety of types and sizes, so it is up to you whether you would like to give her a single flower or a bouquet of them.

Video tape her during her performance. Many of the larger dance recitals sell a DVD of the performance for parents, but video taping it yourself is more fun for family because you can really focus in on your dancer and single her out. It also allows you to post the videos online on YouTube or your blog to show your friends and family, without having to deal with copyright infringement.

Invite your family and friends to your performance. By inviting grandparents and aunts and uncles you will be showing your little dancer how big her achievement is to you. You can send formal written invitations, send e-invites through email, or simply invite them over the phone.

Take plenty of pictures before and after the performance. Have your daughter autograph the program and use it for her scrapbook. You can share your pictures online through email or on your blog.

Have an after-party once the recital is over. Instead of taking her out to dinner, have a party at your home celebrating. Decorate your home with banners, dance-shaped cookies, and a fun dancing theme.

Your daughter deserves to be treated special on her big day. By putting forth a little extra effort you will be surprised at how far it will reach. Your daughter will love that you've made her feel like a queen for the day.
