You want them high enough so it actually makes a difference, but you don't want to give off the wrong image or be completely ineffective for everyday activities (like walking). You probably don't want to opt for heels higher than three-and-a-half or four inches. This is where taste comes into play - you have to make the call.

Wearing clothes that fit you better will help make your body look thinner and longer. You don't have to wear skin tight jeans, but wear clothes that are more fitting to your body style. This can add an effect that makes you look taller.

For a more professional setting, long dress pants with a slight boot-cut over nice dress shoes succeed in giving you height. Straight, wide-leg pant with perhaps a pinstripe to really accentuate the length of the leg is another way to go with the business-wear.
